Blade - left or right
If the blade is marked as “left” means that you hold your left-hand lower on the stick than your right hand and the stick is on the left side of your body. Right hand - in case your right hand lower on the stick.
The stiffness of the blade
The stiffness of the blade is influenced by a material, which the blade is produced from:
Soft (also known as: SB, S, Soft) - the blade is produced from a soft material
Advantages:
- better touch on the soft surface
- easier ball control - ball handling, passing, shooting
- good for wrist shooting and technical players
Disadvantages:
- it twists when makes a pressure on the blade
Medium (also known as: MB, PE, M, Endurance, Medium) - blades are produced from medium material
Advantages:
- stiffer when pressing on the blade
- suitable for technical players, which like wristshots and sometimes golf shots
Disadvantages:
- if a player is not technically skilled then the ball can easily jumped off the blade
- harder for using on soft surfaces - e.g. on rubber
Hard (also known as: PE-H, HB, Radical, hard) - blades are produced from a medium
Advantages:
- the blade is not twisted while shooting/passing
- good for slap shot/ golf shot from long distance from the goal
Disadvantages:
- if a player is not perfectly technically skilled then the ball can easily jumped off the blade
- harder for using on soft surfaces - e.g. on rubber
Medium and hard blades is not recommended for beginners, children and players which play often on the soft surface.
Choosing the right shape of the blade
The floorball blade is essential for quality floorball stick. We can say that if the shaft is not quality and the blade is quality you can somehow play, but if the blade is bad players cannot play well.
Blades can be divided in two groups:
1) Concave (there is no need to make a curve of the blade)
Advantages:
- the blade does not need to be curved
- the curve is usually made ideally for shooting
Disadvantages:
- curving possibilities are limited
- there is an impact on forhand side of the blade, while the backhand side is undervaluated
2) Classic
We can say, that classic blade can be formed to be curved.
