Brain

  • The brain is the most important organ of the nervous system and functions as the body's central control unit. It is located in the skull and is protected by many layers of bone tissue and cerebrospinal fluid.
  • The brain has a complex structure with different parts, each of which has a specific role. The basic parts of the brain are the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, midbrain and brainstem.
  • The brain is the center for processing information from the senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell), controlling movement, regulating body functions (eg breathing, heart rate) and performing complex cognitive processes such as thinking, learning and memory.

Nervous system

  • The nervous system is divided into two main parts: central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).
  • The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord, which are the main organs for processing and transmitting information in the body. The brain performs higher cognitive functions, while the spinal cord is responsible for reflexes and quick reactions.
  • The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that run from the CNS throughout the body. This part of the nervous system transmits signals between the body and the brain, enables movement and mediates sensory perception.
  • Nerves in the peripheral nervous system are divided into somatic nerves, which control voluntary muscle movement, and autonomic nerves, which control unconscious body functions such as digestion, heart rate, and breathing.
