Supplements for proper brain and nervous system function

The brain and nervous system are the basic components of the human body that play a key role in controlling all bodily functions and processes. They are responsible for perception of the surrounding world, thinking, learning, movement, coordination and many other aspects of human existence.

The brain and the nervous system are the basis of human life and ensure the complex coordination of all bodily processes. Maintaining the health of this system is key to the body's overall health and functionality, which is why it's important to take care of your nervous system through a healthy lifestyle and brain care.

Brain

  • The brain is the most important organ of the nervous system and functions as the body's central control unit. It is located in the skull and is protected by many layers of bone tissue and cerebrospinal fluid.
  • The brain has a complex structure with different parts, each of which has a specific role. The basic parts of the brain are the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, midbrain and brainstem.
  • The brain is the center for processing information from the senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell), controlling movement, regulating body functions (eg breathing, heart rate) and performing complex cognitive processes such as thinking, learning and memory.

Nervous system

  • The nervous system is divided into two main parts: central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).
  • The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord, which are the main organs for processing and transmitting information in the body. The brain performs higher cognitive functions, while the spinal cord is responsible for reflexes and quick reactions.
  • The peripheral nervous system consists of nerves that run from the CNS throughout the body. This part of the nervous system transmits signals between the body and the brain, enables movement and mediates sensory perception.
  • Nerves in the peripheral nervous system are divided into somatic nerves, which control voluntary muscle movement, and autonomic nerves, which control unconscious body functions such as digestion, heart rate, and breathing.

Supporting a healthy brain and nervous system is important for overall health and cognitive function. There are several dietary supplements that could help improve brain and nervous system function, especially when combined with a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet.

  • Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), are important for a healthy brain. These fatty acids are found in fish, fish oil, and some plant sources such as flaxseeds and chia seeds. Omega-3 fatty acids can help support cognitive function and improve memory.
  • B vitamins: Some B vitamins, especially B6, B9 (folic acid) and B12, are important for a healthy nervous system and the production of neurotransmitters that regulate communication between the brain and nerves.
  • Vitamin D: Vitamin D has a significant effect on brain function and the immune system. Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with a higher risk of neurological diseases.
  • Antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium): Antioxidants help protect the brain from free radical damage and may have an effect on prevention of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
  • Coenzyme Q10: Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant that can help improve the energy function of the brain and nervous system.
  • Ginkgo biloba: Ginkgo biloba leaf extract has been studied for its ability to promote blood circulation in the brain and improve cognitive function.
  • Amino acid L-theanine: L-theanine found in tea can help improve concentration and relaxation of the brain.
  • Curcumin (active ingredient in turmeric): Curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and may be beneficial for brain health.
  • Ginseng: Panax ginseng is an herb that has been associated with supporting cognitive function and reducing fatigue.
  • Phosfatidylserine: Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid that is found in cell membranes in the brain. Some studies suggest that it can help improve memory and cognitive function.
